Nautilus Home Theater

Inspired by his favorite movie, the client approached our team to design the “Nautilus Theater.” We initially delivered a theme package within the client’s budget, utilizing a simply designed interior package. The team architect suggested another concept to present for validation: a theme-park-quality design with a price tag three times the total budget. While that version was not approved, the budget was flexible, and the homeowner hired a specialty fabricator for the submarine’s interior fixtures. The electronics budget was not increased, yet the finished system holds up to the interior package.

The Tuscan Theater

This relatively small theater (15ft. x 18 ft. x 11ft.)has created some interesting challenges. Since it shared a wall with a bedroom and was in close proximity to the main living area of the house, controlling sound transmission was of the utmost importance. The room was treated with Acoustic Innovations’ SoundCorII barrier material. With an STC rating of 27, this does an amazing job of not only keeping the sound contained within the space, but also keeping extraneous noise out.
