High Definition Driving

The expected advance will be high-definition everything! Players, both Blu-ray and HD DVD, will definitely be the main event. Many titles (Narnia; The Matrix; Harry Potter; Batman Begins; The Terminator; etc.)are already available as the studios jump in with both feet. As Marshal reports on his ad-venture at E3, the mega game show in LA this year, HD games are the rage. Storage capability in HD disc technology is a little hard to wrap your mind around when you consider that we are moving from 700 MB of storage on recordable CDs, to HD discs(and beyond) with 15 to 50 gigs!!! High-definition camcorders for home use are already affordably priced. The early days of480i, moving to 480p, seemed like such advancement, yet today we will see the proliferation of 1080p displays—and 720p is already old school.

With great video comes improved audio, and HD discs offer awesome opportunity for expanded channel information and dynamics. What will the movie theaters do to address digital cinema in the local theaters? It’s “sink or swim” time because we will all experience digital theater at home! The industry is catching up with HDTVEtc. magazine. It was my vision years ago that this title would reflect the future of the industry, and it is now the most demanded magazine on the newsstand for consumers (you) who are searching for answers on an ever-changing technology. I will work hard with our team to deliver the late stand greatest, and try to hang on as this industry spins at breakneck speed! As stereo replaced mono, transistors replaced tubes,CDs replaced vinyl records, digital replaced analog—HD NOW RULES. If you have never experienced this leap of technology, get over to your local electronic expert now… See the future TODAY! Have a great summer and drive carefully.
