How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Deluxe Edition

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Deluxe Edition

As a director and creator of animated mayhem, Chuck Jones rates right up at the top. And while one might think that a preference for explosions and pies-in-the-face was his style, truth be told that he could do it all. Which is why this Dr. Seuss presentation is so entertaining—and yes, endearing. For those who already knew that Boris Karloff provided one of the voices, good for you, and get ready for one entertaining time. We’re big fans of Grinch’s dog—antlers and all.

We all know the story, and there are chills and thrills, and even redemption at the end (compared to the Grinch, Scrooge had an easy time of it). Certainly this is an oldster, but one that holds up well visually, thanks to stylish writing technique and a firm grasp by all those involved as to what animation could do given the limitations that existed for this TV appearance. The remastering makes this 50th anniversary edition (yes, it was that long ago) look as spruced up as a Christmas tree. Sound seems about the same, even though it’s in stereo, but it’s clear—with neither the dialogue nor the music sounding muddy.

Vintage and extra content are included (such as the full-length video of Horton Hears a Who), and collectible packaging wraps it all up like the present it is for youngsters and oldsters alike.
