Thank You for Smoking
 Thank You for Smoking
Wickedly funny, satirical, and with an amazing cast that includes Robert Duvall, William Macy, Rob Lowe, among others—that is what you get with this movie that doesn’t just aim a laser-beamed eye at the tobacco industry, but at those who support and use the product as well. Our protagonist is paid to defuse—spin, if you will—the obvious problems, both social and health related, found in cigarettes. Played with boyish charm and a disarming smile by Aaron Eckhart, you want him to succeed, even as you realize this is just another manipulation. As outrageous as it is funny, Thank You for Smoking is certainly un-PC.
Much of the film is on the move and so has few “talking head” scenes. The video quality of the film is right on, and there’s neither color smearing nor even the slightest MPEG-2 blurring (often a technical problem in these cases). As there are no very dark or high-contrast scenes, even moderate-quality DVD players and displays will excel in displaying this title. Audio is multichannel, but there’s really no need for this, as for the most part, it is Eckhart’s narration over the film and the dialogue in general that are paramount to enjoying the film.
Extras include director and cast audio commentaries, deleted scenes, featurettes, and a discussion featuring director Jason Reitman on the The Charlie Rose Show.
