Porcupine Tree: Stupid Dream
Porcupine Tree: Stupid Dream

After two stellar DVD-Audio surround releases on the DTS Entertainment label, Porcupine Tree flies solo by re-releasing on their own a CD+DVD-Audio package of their out-of-print release from 1999, Stupid Dream.

Band founder/front man Steven Wilsonhelms the new stereo and 5.1 mixes, and the end result is one of the finest rock music experiences in recent memory, presented in a first-rate package of such quality that it eclipses most major label offerings. PT’s complex, melodic, and dynamic progressive rock arrangements are a treat to experience in surround, and Stupid Dream adds flute, saxophone, and strings to complement the band’s powerful lineup of drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and vocals.

DVD-Audio content is presented in hi-res48 kHz/24-bit 5.1 surround and stereo. DTS5.1 surround and 48 kHz/24-bit PCM stereo options are also provided for DVD-Video players. A standard CD also contains the new stereo remix. Wilson’s smooth vocals are prominent in the front soundstage, and layered back-ground vocals and guitars crunch in all corners of the listening environment. Healthy low-end is provided by bass, drums, and ethereal synthesizer textures. There are two outstanding bonus audio tracks: a percussive and ambient“ Ambulance Chasing,” and a 14-minute version of “Even Less.” The latter track expands the opening song of the album with a serpentine7/4 instrumental middle section. Video features include a music video and photo gallery.

After a brief period of exclusivity at the band’s website, www.porcupinetree.com,Stupid Dream is now available at retail and comes highly recommended.
