CARS
CARS

It ain’t easy getting to #1, and in the non-organic world of CARS, even a Lightning McQueen needs to stop and smell the motor oil. The fast and frantic world of NASCAR-like racing gets a makeover to hometown charm—the cast of characters providing dramatic and comedic relief amidst a story of metallic redemption. (Larry the Cable Guy is our favorite as “Mater,” the beat-up tow-truck.)

With views suitable for video games, avoiding blurs is as much an obligation as it is the responsibility of those mastering this film to video. The quality is as high as expected, and colors are solid and bright without coming across as wild smears. Check out the landscapes and reflections because they really deliver and add to the overall “world” that these four-wheelers (for the most part) “live” in. Sound effects, coupled with surround, really deliver, especially when taking those tight curves. Turn it up and enjoy: Bass will especially add to the experience this time around, so those without subwoofers now have the perfect excuse for getting one (Honey, it’s for the kids!).

Additions include the often expected and delivered Pixar short that ran before the film,One Man Band (perhaps that will change now that they’re owned lock, stock, and axle), as well as an all-new short feature, behind-the-scenes featurette, and deleted scenes—plus, marketing to the future with a peek at next summer’s animation about a French rat aspiring to chefdom (Ratatouille).
