The Weird Al Show, The Complete Series
We readily admit having blanked out about this late ’90s show—Pee-wee Herman, not Weird Al Yankovic, being our Saturday morning host of choice. But maybe it’s time to revisit Al and his one-season romp into children’s television. There’s more than a mild chuckle coming from these 13 episodes: how could there not be with the likes of folks such as Drew Carey, Fred Willard, Dick Clark, Fabio, among others showing up to lend their particular talents on a kiddy show? Another reason to come to Al’s party comes from his live musical numbers that are supplemented by a variety of guests dotting the episodes. What also helps is that all is done seriously, but no one takes it seriously.
CBS may have pulled the plug after one season, but they do good work and quality production transfer over to DVD so as to provide better quality than what was found on the TVs of the time. This makes it easier to see those little things that sped by when it was first broad-casted. Audio is in uninspired mono, but at least it’s clear and free of hiss or smudginess.
Additions include new commentaries and features, such as animation storyboards, art galleries, and a karaoke version of the tongue-twisting theme song, plus audio presentations by Weird Al on each episode, along with selected commentaries by cast members.
