V for Vendetta Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition
V for Vendetta Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition

Ever since reading The Watchman, we’ve sought out anything that had Alan Moore’s name on it. This adaptation of his graphic novel continues the validity of being on the watch against evil disguised as “good”—and is not played simplistically or dummied down. While this movie skids a bit at times, it’s no failure as an action thriller or philosophy exercise. And considering it was produced by the “Matrix” brothers and directed by their first A.D.—it’s surprisingly free of psycho-babble, if maybe a bit lacking in subtlety at times.

The cinematography stands out time and time again. Contrast, colors, and sharp and precise imaging is expected of Warner, and they have yet to fail to deliver on disc when provided with a quality program to transfer. Audio should be played loudly and is enveloping when it needs to acquire attention, which is not just when some-thing is noisy or blowing up, but also to emphasize the metaphor for the pervasive silence of the dismal existence that surrounds the living.

As befits the scope of this film, there are additions that allow for “chewing” on the back-story as it relates to history, along with the expected behind the scenes and “how we did this” featurettes. There’s also a look at the comic itself, along with some other distinctive bits—and even a hidden “Easter Egg” tossed in along with all the rest.
